Relay for Life: Help Fight Cancer!

Hi everyone! I am participating in Relay for Life this year. It is a 24 hour event that takes place on April 9th. The goal of this event is to fight back against cancer by raising money that will go towards research. I am calling on all of you to donate any money that you can towards fighting against cancer. We all know at least one person who has or has had cancer. Whether it is $5 or more, any amount of money will help! You can even donate in honor, in memory, or in support of a loved one.

My Reason to Relay

Relay For Life is my personal opportunity to fight back against cancer by raising funds and awareness. I fight so one day no one has to ever face cancer.
It's amazing to think that millions of people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. But, by taking part in Relay, I am helping the American Cancer Society save lives by:
  • Helping people stay well by helping them take steps to prevent cancer or detect it early, when it’s most treatable
  • Helping people get well by being in their corner around the clock to guide them through every step of their cancer experience
  • Finding cures by funding groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer’s causes, determine how best to prevent it and discover new ways to cure it
  • Fighting back by working with lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and rallying communities worldwide to join the fight
If you can, please help by donating. You can just click on the button at the top of this post or click here. Any amount of money can help towards finding a cure.

While reading Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover's Soul II, I came across this passage about a mother and daughter relationship that really hit home. Here is a quote from page 75:

"Heather and I don't see eye-to-eye on many things. I am a talker; she's quiet. I am nostalgic; she's overwhelmingly practical. I am overly concerned with what others think and feel; she really isn't. Often we clash. But our mutual love of horses has opened a door of communication between us that might not have occurred any other way"

This passage explains the relationship I have with my mom perfectly. Our deepest conversations are about animals. If it wasn't for the horses and dogs and other critters in my life, I do not think I would even has a semi-functional relationship with my mom. It makes me realize how much animals are a part of my life. They keep my life from falling apart just by their mere presence.

Remember Me...

"Gandhi said that whatever you do in life will be insignificant. But it's very important that you do it. I tend to agree with the first part."

"You once told me, our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch. Is that true for everybody, or is it just poetic bullshit?"

"If you could hear me, I would say that our finger prints don't fade from the lives we've touched."

"Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it. Because nobody else will. Like when someone comes into your life and half of you says you're nowhere near ready, but the other half says: make her yours forever."

"I would say that by virtue of your not acting parental up to this
point, you've relinquished your ability to wield any power now."

~Grace from Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Sometimes I wish I could say that to my parents. Especially when they have ignored me for days even weeks at a time, and all of a sudden decide to "care." But like most of my thoughts, I keep those to myself..or at least filter them.
